Terms of service

Last updated: 4 July 2026

The short version: ClimbBench is a free, informational tool - it is not medical or training advice, you test at your own risk, and your data stays yours.

Who we are, and agreeing to these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and ClimbBench ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using ClimbBench you agree to them, so please read them together with the privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

The service

ClimbBench is an informational tool: you record self-reported physical capability assessments, and we compare them against benchmark ranges for climbers at your grade. It is currently free to use.

Not medical or training advice

ClimbBench is not medical advice, training advice or coaching. The physical tests it references carry an inherent risk of injury. You perform them entirely at your own risk and are responsible for your own safety: warm up properly, use safe equipment, work within your limits and stop if something hurts.

Consult a qualified coach or medical professional before attempting maximal tests, especially if you are injured, unwell or new to structured training.

Your account

  • You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
  • The information you give us must be accurate, and kept up to date.
  • Keep your credentials confidential - you are responsible for activity under your account.

Acceptable use

When using ClimbBench, you must not:

  • break the law, or use the service to harm others;
  • try to access other users' data or areas of the service you aren't authorised for;
  • probe, disrupt or overload the service, or scrape it with automated tools;
  • copy, reverse engineer or resell the service.

Your data

The data you enter remains yours. You give us permission to store and process it in order to run the service, as described in the privacy policy. You can delete individual results in the app, and you can ask us to delete your account at any time.

Benchmark data and accuracy

Benchmark ranges are compiled from published, third-party datasets and are indicative only - see the FAQs for how they are built and what the confidence levels mean. They are provided "as is": we make no guarantee that they are accurate, complete or suitable for any particular purpose, and they are ranges, not targets.

Availability and changes to the service

ClimbBench is a young product provided free of charge. We may change, suspend or withdraw features (or the whole service) at any time, and we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. We will try to give reasonable notice of significant changes.

Suspension and termination

You can stop using ClimbBench at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put the service or other users at risk.

Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Subject to that, ClimbBench is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude all implied warranties and will not be liable for indirect or consequential losses, loss of data, or any injury or loss arising from your decision to perform physical tests or to act on information shown in the service.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you live elsewhere, you may have mandatory consumer protections under your own country's law, and nothing in these terms removes them.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service evolves. We will post the new version here and update the date at the top; if a change is significant, we will let you know in the app or by email. Continuing to use ClimbBench after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
